Question about PlayStation Bans.
 

Well, just few minutes ago I told my brother that 3.40 Rogero can directly connect to PSN and play online. But he said to me don't go on PSN because it gonna get us banned and we won't be able to go online anymore. I told him that it will most likely be account ban and rarely console ban. But then he said that they can ban your internet ip address so that any PS3 using that ip address to go online will not be able to access PSN anymore. I thought he was stupid or something, I mean I never heard of that **** before. Well could someone tell me if that is possible?

Um, if PSN detects a console was modded, it bans the console, not the user account.

But it like extremely rare right? I mean look at all those people who have used cfw to go online. Only a little of them got console ban and that was probably because of them using mods or doing stupid things. Yeah it possible, but it like a less than 5% chance of them banning your ip from ever going on PSN again.

Doesn't it ban both the console and the account?

I think at the Mo just don't go online with black ops 2 as that would be a ban

Banning a account you could still make another account. But banning an console, all accounts on that console are banned and the console could never go on PSN again.

Yes, a couple of years ago quite a few people were banned for accessing PSN on KMEAW 3.55 when 3.55 could access PSN.

Just to clarify to the OP...

Your IP address isn't banned, that's ridiculous.
Your PS3's MAC address is banned and it's unique ID.
Your user name will be banned along with that if you do receive a ban for detection of CFW.
Your friend is stupid, it's not clever to go stating things as facts to others in an attempt to sound intelligent, unless you have actually heard something in the first hand.

Nobody has been banned yet since the new CFW stuff came out, but it's very early days. If you go online Sony can easily detect you are running CFW, by easily - I mean, they could mechanize the detection system and ban everyone on CFW in one fell swoop.

If it was Microsoft, that is exactly what would - and does - happen if you have a JTAG box on Live, it gets banned in hours.

The difference with Sony is that they are software morons, inept, incompetent. But you can be sure, a time will come when they start banning people again (maybe, see below)

When people were banned a couple of years ago, it was as simple as changing the MAC address and console ID on the console because Sony doesn't use a whitelist for connecting to PSN unlike Microsoft. This makes banning extremely dodgy for Sony...

Back a couple of years ago people were taking console IDs from other PS3s they had access to...

The loophole was plugged with later PS3 firmware so no PSN access...would this banning have carried on given the ease of stealing another console's ID....who knows, maybe not.

And maybe, they may never ban again because of this...

Or maybe there are other IDs, nobody really knows - at least nobody who would be willing to discuss it in public because it's a touchy subject and the intelligent hackers/people don't agree with the concept of a CFW PS3 going on PSN due to the amount of cheating and ruining of the service it will bring with it as a result...

I dunno, check your standard issue crystal ball, we all have them at PS3hax, I dropped mine so unfortunately can't predict the future with 100% certainty, but I'm sure another psychic will be along shortly to appease your every whim.
