Drive now not pairing to the console ???

My PS3 G03 stopped reading disc so i bought a new KES400A laser (Single lens as was the original) fitted the new laser and i was up and running again.

played a game and tested it on a DVD just to check, all ok

as i inserted a disc i did notice the drive sounded a little worn, it would give 5 clicks as if the cogs were skipping or worn. it would eject nice and smooth but i wasnt happy to leave it, wish i did now lol.

anyway i have 5 old drives, all with broken lasers and from C03 and G03 consoles.

i put the paired circuit board in one drive and it loaded nice and smoothly, fantastic, fitted the new laser into it but now it doesnt read the disc, no blue laser start up, this would indicate the ribbon it not in correctly but it is.

ive tested the drive and laser on a second console i have, also a G03 and i works fine so the ribbons are ok.

ive even put on a spare board from a broken ps3 and the drive shows the blue laser and does read and spin the disc but as its not the right board it doesnt show in the xmb

ive looked at the board under a mag light and cant see any shorts on the ribbon connections

dopes anyone know the chip which pairs the board? it is the MX 8 leg chip or maybe the 14 leg JRC located directly behind the laser ribbon port

sounds like the board is at fault obviously even though it did work, so could be a dry joint as well

any help would be great, thanks for your time

i dont no, does it show the chip that holds the code?

it depends on the drive model you have, schematics are for BDM-001 and BDM-002.

from the devwiki page :

Quote:

The drive controller contains a BGA-sized 2MB NOR flash memory chip for Blu-ray drive firmware code, with the contents encrypted. In addition to this, there is a 8MB SDRAM working memory chip. Each drive contains a unique identification number, possibly stored in the SPI Serial Interface Macronix EEPROM. This chip or the NOR flash chip probably stores the device key (and associated sequence keys), and the host private key.
i did not search any further, but if this is true it's only an 8pins ic. ;)

thanks Mr Dutch.

the board is a BMD-002

the spare board i have is a BMD-001

both have 2 x 8 pin ic chips

1 of them is deffo a MX chip, im guessing its that one?

for both boards it at the same position.

don't hold me too it that it would work, ps3devwiki says it should be stored in there, i don't know if it also team working with another flash chip..

EDIT:

Macronix MX25L1005MC (EEPROM)

Used in BMD-001, BMD-002, BMD-003, ?BMD-006?

thanks Mr Dutch, that is the one showing as an MX

really strange the original board stopped working, no signs of shorts in the ribbon connectors and not burn marks on the motherboard.

need to get myself a small heat blower

thanks again
