ReBug 4.20 Question
Is this actually 4.21 firmware????
I was under the impression that 3.55 is still the newest hackable firmware. The previous ReBug which I used to use to get on PSN was just 3.55 spoofed as 4.10. So I was assuming this was 3.55 spoofed to 4.21 But I can't actually install OFW3.55 over it, so, is it actually 4.21? Can I install OFW4.21 and go back to ReBug without screwing up my PS3? I just want to make sure before I screw something up - I updated my previous PS3 to 4.11 thinking it was hackable, only to find out it wasn't, and had to sell it and get another unit. I remember reading about the PS3 master keys being leaked, or something to that extent, so does that mean we can install CFW on systems newer than 3.55 now? If so, the little banner at the top of this site should be changed, as it's confusing me. |
No, the highest hackable firmware is 3.55, any console with OFW above 3.55 will need to be downgraded (with Hardware Flasher, there's no software solution) in order to jailbreak the console.
The new Rebug 4.21 is based on the OFW 4.21 (yes, you can play the new games up to 4.21 without the need to fix the eboot), but that doesn't mean you can install it on the OFW 4.21, this CFW is signed with 3.55 private keys, so you can only install it on 3.55. Rebug contains a lot of options for debug purposes, similar to the 3.55 version plus some new features. The newer models can't be downgraded to 3.55, thus making impossible to hack it. The key that was leaked was the lv0 key, needed to modify the OFW to make a Custom Firmware. |
Ah, I see.
Well I'm having trouble going back from Rebug 4.21 to OFW 3.55... I tried that 999 downgrader, it made it show as version 9.99 in the recovery menu like the site said it would. But then I try Rebug 3.55.3 and it says "the data is corrupted" from the XMB, and in recovery it says there's no applicable update found. Now I'm stuck with a useless 3.55 "999" downgrade, what can I do? Edit: I just tried the 4.21 Rebug from the XMB and I get the same thing. "The data is corrupted. (8002F157)" Did I screw something up? My console isn't bricked, it still powers on, I can access all my stuff, but I can't seem to get rid of that 999-downgrader frimware. I don't actually get what that does - if you still need a hardware flasher to downgrade a PS3 that's above 3.55, then what does the 999 downgrader really do? |
The 999 Downgrader will downgrade the console from CFW 4.21/4.30 to 3.55 without the need to use a hardware flasher.
I don't know the process, so you'll have to search the forum or wait for someone to help you. |
Ah, I think I got it. Turns out I had to open the Rebug toolbox and set "Toggle QA" to enabled. Now it's installing Rebug 3.55.3 from the XMB.
Now I'm curious what QA is. But I was scared there for a minute! Hopefully I can get back to the 3.55CFW I'm used to that doesn't screw me over for updating. |
Just go to the tutorial section, it will be easier than typing everything for you here, as it is already there.

Alright, so I went back to Rebug 4.21 and like I was experiencing before, I can no longer start mmCM. Why? I don't want the new version that's "stealth", I want a mmCM icon on my XMB like always!
I do have an old version, something like 4.02, I did the full install while on 3.55CFW. I get "An error occurred during the start operation. (80010017)." --EDIT-- Never mind, I figured it out. The version of mmCM I was using is too old to support 4.21 |
