PS3 won't work when i plug in my Bluray

I'be run into a peculiar problem. I recently bought a non functional ps3 which said it wouldn't play any games and the drive wouldn't even attempt to grab the disc. After some experimenting I took the drive off but left the logic board connected to the power and data cable. And I was able to go on the store and play downloaded games, but the second I plug in the bluray I can't access any app or play any downloaded game.

I took the top off the drive to see what happens inside, and the answer was... absolutely nothing, motor wouldn't run, laser wouldnt move or light up. I bought a new drive and its completely dead as well.

A few moments ago I tested out seeing what would happen if I plugged in only one ribbon from the drive to the logic board to see when it makes it not work. I've found out the error occurs when I plug in the ribbon to the part that the motor connects too. (Directly below logic board). Saying this, the drive is still completely dead (even though laser ribbon doesn't kill the board when plugged in, it still won't come on along with the functions the other 2 ribbons help with.)

So in summary my problem is that no matter the drive the motor ribbon kills logic board and the other 3 don't do a damn thing still if I unplug motor). Any one have any advice?

Edit: Also when I leave motor unplugged, when I start up the system the blue light blinks twice and stays on 3rd blink (I just assume that's because not all the ribbons are connected since it happens if plug in any combination of the 3 "working" ribbon Parts) and when I plug in the motor ribbon (by itself and with other 3 drive ribbons hooked up) the blue light blinks I believe 12 times.

is it a drive for the fat ps3?
i think the ribbon that you are talking about, is also responsible for the disc_in switch and the disc in sensor.

is the drive empty? , and is the drive's mechanism how it should be?
when your blue led flashes it means the ps3 thinks there's a disc inside.

Yes its a fat 60gb ps3. Yes my drive is empty and is in the down (?) Position. And both bluray drives do the same thing. Plug in the side ribbon (one next to power cable port and port for the sensor on top of drive) my ps3s light goes off and I can't play any games. Turn ps3 off, unhook that ribbon, and then psn games work fine.

Could it be a logic board or bluray ribbon issue? Thinking the former since the laser won't come on and I think the power cable is the one that turns it on.

you could also examine the ribbon cable from motherboard<>drive for loose contacts, sometimes these cables fail also.

if the power from the mainboard to the drive is also ok (5V and 12V) then it's definitely a logic board problem.

Ha, no, not a bot. Thanks for fixing the image though! Still learning how to work on PS3's and been many years since I hung out on forums. :dontknow:

Ohhh! Just realized that was a reference to my name. Nope, just loved transformers and "Decepticon42" does not inspire trust.
