How do I play PS2 games?
Hey there
I recently purchased a used PS3 with MultiMan (which I updated to the latest version yesterday) and Rogero 4.30 firmware. On the home screen, there are a couple of PSX games that work when you press the O button, like Crash Team Racing and the very first Resident Evil. I downloaded Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex (about 700 MB) and I would like to play it, however I do not know how. I can access the PS3's hard drive using FileZilla through FTP but I don't know what to do next. The file I downloaded is .rar and has two files inside of it, CRASH BAND2.mdf and CRASH BAND2.mds I Googled but all I found was the Cobra USB thing and I am not looking to spend money to play PSX/PS2 games, so if I have to then never mind it! Anyhow is there a way to do that without having to buy the Cobra USB dongle? Would it let me play if I burnt the game to a CD, for instance, but if so then how do I burn it when it's a .rar instead of .iso? Thanks guys! ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* And by the way my PS3 is not backwards compatible (checked on the sticker on the back). |
You need cobra, or a PS2.

if you would like to play PS2 Games on your PS3, it has to be first Back ward compatible with PS2 games and there is an emulator for it here some place. also some PS2 games are now working on PS3 but they must be in pkg formats |

Or You could loosen that sphincter up and either buy a PS2 or buy Cobra, but they are the ONLY way you will ever be able to play PS2 backups on a console. Though you could have it all for free, if you have a very powerful PC that is capable of running the PS2 emulator. But as to your original question, no its not possible with PS2 backups. |
When I try to run the .mdf file from MultiMan's file manager, it says "To play Genesis+ GX games you must install the latest version of GENESIS Emulator for the PS3". I am downloading it at the moment but I am pretty sure it won't work since it's a PS2 game not a SEGA one! It's worth a shot anyway, I truly love that game.

PS2 Discs you can not but there are Emulators for most of the other systems Where are you from Ya Sa7bi? |
Thanks guys I just saw the replies before I posted this! Thank for your time and information, I guess I'll do without playing PS2 games.
@grego ry I am not going to lie, I am a bit of a tight ass when it comes to gaming, but that's mainly because I live in Egypt where customs are extremely high and everything that is imported (of course all games and gaming accessories are) are double, triple, or sometimes quadruple the price, and that's excluding the shipping which will cost a lot too. That is the main reason why I preferred to buy a used, modified PS3 over a brand new one because the games here are really expensive and the latest ones come out months after they are released abroad. |

But the only way you will get what you want, is by buying that Cobra. Or by buying a second hand PS2. |
Oh man I had so many PSX and PS2 consoles but all of them died, they couldn't take the years of abuse lol.
I may just go for a PS2 since they are sold locally rather than having to order the Dongle online and pay for shipping and customs and also wait over three weeks for them to arrive. I also hear that the Cobra dongle doesn't let you play all PS2 games necessarily but a majority of them. Thanks for your help, by the way, I appreciate it. @3absiso hey there! Ana men masr.. ahlan beek |
