Music Equalizer ?

Im using my ps3 as a media center since I got it jailbroken, but it sounds soooo poor compared to my Highend soundcards I used to have, and even compared to my laptops usb card asus xonar...

Anyway I can improve its sound capabilities ? :dontknow:

If your soundcard has optical inputs, run the optical output from the ps3 to it.
That way you'll be using your soundcard's DAC instead of the PS3's.

I got rid of my desktop setup, all I have now is a laptop :)

Then you're stuck with the PS3 DAC unless you get an external soundcard, or a high end audio receiver that has an optical input.

Hell, TV's nowadays probably have optical inputs for audio, see if your TV has one, the DAC might be better than the PS3s.

But basically, you need a quality DAC, quality speakers, and a quality source to get a great audio experience.

Your audio signal is only as good as the weakest link in it's chain.

How are you sending out the sound from the PS3?
via the HDMI direct to the HDTV
via the HDMI direct to the HDTV which sends it's sound to an amp or PC/MAC or;
via the fiber optic cable directly to an amp/reciever/mixboard?

I have mine via the fiber optic cable directly into a mixboard and adjust the sound from there. Sometimes the bass is a bit much

Optical into the z5500 receiver.

What options do I have when it comes to audio cards?

Creative makes a decent sound card. I used to used their X-Fi card back when I had a PS2.
Code:

Their GUI allows you to create sound presets.

That seems like a solid audio system for gaming, shouldn't need much more, but i've never used it personally so I really don't know how good it is.

Often times the source material is the cause of bad audio, make sure you get the highest quality media.

Another possibility is to increase the sample rate, typically it will be running at 44.1 khz, your soundcard can probably go higher than that and I know the ps3 can for sure. You can set the sample rate in the PS3 audio settings, sound card will be in your sound card control panel.

If you really want a high-end soundcard: http://us.focusrite.com/firewire-aud...saffire-pro-24

I know personally focusrite interfaces are awesome.

I was using the Fatality Champion w/ front drive bay to route sound from my ps3 to computer speakers via optical. Worked perfectly until my sound card blew.

Remember guys, I do not have a desktop setup where I could put a sound card in.

I am thinking of getting rid of the z5500, since the ps3 is now more of a media center for music and movies.

Are there any soundcards I could use directly on the ps3 ?
