How to Jailbreak Ps3/Install Linux on 4.31 Firmware?
Hey guys, so first I would like to say that I got my wireless keyboard and mouse and USB flash drive ready to take advantage of a Linux OS on the Playstation 3. I've read that it's not as easy to install anymore due to a conflict between Linux and Sony, so there's a lot of work involved, and you MUST downgrade your firmware version for it to even work. I already have the Red Ribbon.iso file downloaded, so now I'm hoping somebody can guide me from here, preferably step-by-step. I've seen a lot of people claiming that you have to get a 3.55 Custom Firmware, and others claiming otherwise, so I'm stumped and sitting here with drool hanging out of my mouth because I don't know where to begin.
I look forward to your help, it's very appreciated! :) In addition, I think it's important to include that this is my FIRST time jailbreaking a PS3... Or at least attempting to. :P |
Okay, so first, before anyone shouts at you, you should have searched a) the site and b) google before asking that here. You'll find a lot of people around here don't have a lot of patience.
With that out of the way, to install anything unofficial on your PS3, you'll want custom firmware. To get custom firmware on your PS3 you'll have to downgrade to 3.55 (the last truly hackable firmware version) and to do that, you're going to need a hardware flasher (such as E3 or Progskeet) for the next steps I'd suggest searching youtube. Because that part scares me. An alternate method is to find a member on here who offers a downgrade service, and of course they will do all the hard work for you, it will cost you though. Once your PS3 is sporting some CFW, you can install whatever you like, including Linux. EDIT: snkysnake is right, newer PS3s that ship with firmware ABOVE 3.55 cannot be downgraded to it. Sorry! |
@HornyMeatloaf
no the first step is to tell what model your PS3 is. Cause if its 3000+ model there is no point in explaining to the kid/man how to even get to CFW, given those models cannot get to CFW. |
