Farcry 3, fan at FULL speed [40GB PS3]
Hi,
I'm running Farcry 3 on a 40GB/500gb Phat PS3 and after 10 minutes of playing the game the fan goes at full speed. Then after another 10 minutes, it turns off. Then it repeats in this cycle. Does Farcry 3 demand more CPU usage than my PS3 can handle? or is this a bug? My PS3 has been refilled with thermal paste once, after getting YLOD. Artic silver were used. System: Phat PS3 40GB/500GB 3.55 Rebug |
you should be lucky it somehow still works? , you allready had a ylod...
did you reflowed or reballed it. ;) |
thats a sign
its going for 2nd YLOD if u had it reflowed,be sure that its gonna hit at anytime. Get a thermal unit service or replacement(and a reball) with a cooling mod,a simple one,like elevating the console to a few cm. These new games are hard on older systems |

Reflow bad! - its temp fix 2weeks to a year at most. Reball Mega good - this is perma fix, granted the solder is the cause of ylod in your case. Get it reballed ASAP! |
How much does a re-ball generally cost in North America ? I recently got my 40gb fixed for the YLOD, with new thermal paste and all.
And my fan still sounds like a walrus in heat. The ps3 even automatically turned off once because the RSX got too hot, and that was within 5 minutes of turning my ps3 on, and transferring a game from internal hd to external. Wasn't even running a game ! Thankfully, I have another CFW ps3 to cover any contingencies, but this one's my baby..owned it for 5 years now..and only one YLOD..which is a pretty good return. |

No it is not a bug, get the console reballed, if its still possible... Reflow could damage the console in a way that reball is no longer possible.
You are lucky that your console is still working, reflow is in my opinion just for those who want to get those last 5min alone with the console to backup important things and say the last words. |
@knuhuf
no its not a bug, I know this cause I speak from personal experience. I had my original Launch PS3 get the YLOD after 4 years of constant play . It out lasted every slim I know of and even older phats. I took it in for reball ( which cost me 45$ cause it was a thanksgiving special, but usually cost about 60$ @sheepninja ) well worth the cost to save my 650$ dollar machine permenatly. Console runs fine now What your experiencing is the PS3 trying to cool itself down, think of it like a fat man in shorts on the beach with no sun protection trying to stay cool with one of those mini handheld fans. Your soldering on the inside around the RSX and CELL chips has fallen apart and the thermal paste is drying up. If you still have original paste on it then the paste comment stands true. Either way, if you had changed the paste to a proper paste, your problem then is the solder sony used is cheap ass solder with no lead to help take the heat. I will bet my Ps3 that your solder points and ball points on the chips are cracked and falling apart. The reflow you did only melted what sony had on there and re hardened what sony has on there. Hope this helps. |
