Which model?
 

Hi all,

I want to be able to play backup PS2/PS1 games on my PS3 as well as homebrew versions of the newer PS3 games (which I read was sometimes not possible on older PS3s?). I was wondering if I should get the older 60gb phat model, or one of the newer PS3 models? If I am not able to acquire the 60gb model, is there another model that is best suited for my purposes?

first, Im not sure where you read that the phats are having problems running homebrew and games. I have a Phat on 4.30 rebug and everything works just fine.

Second, if you buy a super slim model and ask for help here everyone is just guna laugh you away.

third, what you want is a original PHAT any of them, or any of the 2000series slims.

with the phats or the slim if you wanna soft mod it they need to have the 3.55 ofw installed prior.

If they have OFW3.56+ installed when you get it, you will need to buy a flasher (80-100$) or find someone on this forums that offers a downgrade service in your country.

Or you could take the route of buying a 3000+ model for the 300$ and then purchasing a 3K3Y or Cobra ODE for 150$ and hope to hell that there advertisment about playinig backups on OFW 4.31 with any model of PS3 works.

you can only run PSX backups on CFW right now, unless you spend the 40$ to buy a cobra dongle and use there crappy CFW. PSP and PS2 backup loading is not a public thing yet.

Only the verry first PS3 Fat are backward compatible however once you're jailbroken, like snkysnake02 said, there are few ways even with Slim PS3.

Hackable PS3 are these :

Fat :
CECH A to CECH G (Nand) (Only with Progskeet)
CECH H to CECH Q (All other fat) (Nor) (E3 Flasher(Solder less) or Progskeet)

Slim :
All up to CECH-2501 (Nor) (E3 Flasher(Solder less) or Progskeet)

@snkysnake02 , do you mean there is no way to play backup PS2 games without Cobra? Would you say that getting an older model PS3 is worth it, then? I don't actually own any physical PS2 games, so.

Yes thats exactly what im saying, there is no way to play PS2 backups or PSP backups with just stand alone CFW right now. You can play PSX backups with CFW right now, the PS2 and PSP backup loaders are only with Cobra right now.

When the loaders get released though you will be happy you have a reverse compatable one cause the read rate for ps2 will be MUCH HIGHER for you then a slim user.
