Water cooling

The fan controller on my launch-day 60gb PS3 snuffed it last December (1 month past warranty) so I water cooled it. I also added a molex connector and a fan plug to the back of the case to run the pump and rad fan. The tacky blue fan stuck to the end of the console is temporary till I come up with something better for cooling the PSU/dics drive.

So now your PS3 is working?

Very cool, I am working on a water cooled PS3 laptop, so everything is small and internal.

Just a few questions:
How many MM fans are you using? (They look like 80 or 90's from here).

Do you know the fans CFM and dBa?

Any over heating problems with your radiator since you watercooled it?

Also you don't need to cool the BluRay and PSU, as the original fan really never cooled it anyways, and since you are watercooling it your moving heat out of the system much faster, so there really is no risk. (Air holes suffice).

Well, it always worked, just the cooling crapped out. I had to run it without the case and an aux. fan taped to the bottom of the heatsink:

Looked bad and the fan was really loud.

@Pirate:
The rad fan is 120mm 19-39dba ?cfm and the one on the case is 80mm 19dba ?cfm. No overheating problems at all and it runs dead quiet. I mounted a speed controller inside the shroud on the rad fan (grey knob on top of shroud) and run the fan a little below half speed.
Most of the components are from a Gigabyte kit: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...%20Galaxy%20II
For the water-blocks I used a pair of Danger Den units with some retainers I machined from polyproplene: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...e=Danger%20Den

How did you secure the cooling blocks to the PS3? I used the Koolance PS3 kit.

Technitian3 10-03-2008 06:52 PM

I machined up some retainers from polyproplene. The blocks came with some #4-40 studs for mounting, so I drilled the original heat-sink shoulder screws and tapped them out to match:

Did you use a CNC router?
