the reason Sony doesn't want Linux on their ps3.

linux was used as a way to try and get non gamers involved in the ps3. to send a msg saying people who write your own code come onto the ps3. its a powerfull platform. the msg was that it was more powerfull then any other gaming system...

however sony viewed it as a gaming system. and if they let full linux on it people would be running windows games on it or not spending thier time in the sony side of it. it would damage game sales. and lower the amount of people who play online on the psn.

imagine if they got World of warcraft and vent running on it... i mean sony takes a hit on evory unit sold. from thier view it makes since to axe linux.

ps3 sales where way down untell geohot fist hacked the hyperviser last year. removing of linux caused a small "rush" in sales for older consoles that wernt crippled.

sonys msg from the 2nd generation of ps3 hardware was. we are going to be taking away features.

ps2 hardware / ps2 emualtion / all the usb ports and memory card slots / linux

all was chipped out of the ps3 in order to "lower costs"

sony donst want linux on it because it had potentioal for a loss of revinue...

they didnt see it for a potential of increased revenue

if it had fully unlocked linux and was at a price point where sony made money not lost money

ps3 would have sold alot more then it had before being hacked.
