How about taking gameos completely off the internal nand/nor and boot the ps3's firmware completely from the hard drive from a vflash region. This would allow for multiple firmware versions each selectable from your boot loader. Disable the hard drive encryption. Plug in support. Region modification for blue ray. remove the blueray requirement of a married pair of drive and motherboard.
On the PC side of things , a ufs2 driver,since the drive encryption is turned off, to allow mounting of the ps3 drive to windows / Linux /MacOs. For moving large portions of data to and from the computer.
