I tried to compile petitboot, but failed. Something wrong with Makefile. If I cann't find a precmpiled one for 3.55, I will try to patch Makefile to build next week. Typing on cellphone on train for travel now. From petitboot source code level, what's the diffierence between 3.55 and 3.41? I didn't find different branch in git repos.
Not sure if it was petitboot or other tools from graf that were 3.41 compiled.
Last weekend I decided to go for internal install because of the Sony vs Graf moves. If Sony doesn't want it, I have to get it
So I followed the German guide here on PS3Hax (original source http://www.ps3-tools.de/thread.php?threadid=38957
) and luckily I understand basic German as I live in the netherlands.
First a backup of my internal HD. After removing all games I own, I was still left with 100Gb+ (DLC's, installs and other crap). Backing up by FTP to my PC took a lot of hours.
second make a CFW with PS3MFW. Took some times because I kept getting errors. Spoofing was the problem so disabled that. Finally (also after a few hours) my own CFW and installed it.
After that the "deleting and creating/resizing of the vflash'es" didn't pop up the format message for me. Remembered I deleted some backups by FTP so went for filesystem repair. No result twice. Other option for data recovery also no result. Ok, the HD had to be formatted anyway because of the resizing that still had to happen so went for a format myself. I wanted a really empty HD for partition resizing so went for a full format. another 28 hours.
Now I got the format message after the deleting/creating/resizing. Finally a 40 GB partition on my internal. Time to put back the backup. And another 7 hours past by. Recovery of the trophies was also successful.
finally after following the rest of the guide I got Ubuntu installed from CD. It is downloading the updates right now
Don't know yet if I want to start Ubuntu from PS3 startup or not. First I will see how it works for me if installment is finished
Edit: woke up to see the install is finished. Restarting the PS3 gives filesystem error. No other option then to reformat again. Putting the backup on the PS3 again so in about 7 hours I will be ready to continu
Strange thing is the PS3's HD is now 377Gb. before it was 465Gb. I was suspecting it would be 425Gb after the creating of the 40Gb vFlash. Maybe it has created 2 40Gb partitions because of the trouble I had before or something went wrong with the option to let the Ubuntu installer manage the partitions and Ubuntu got installed on the GameOS partition. I'll find out after the backup is in place
Edit2: found the problem. I wanted to install Ubuntu right away, but I have to use the debian_ps3_netinst.iso. My first ubuntu install was on the GameOS partition as I suspected. Debian_ps3_netinst.iso has vflash drivers so is able to recognise the 43,2 Gb vflash partition
So installing Debian now....
