Yes removing the emotion chip from EU ps3s did same them money on production. But they also removed the card readers, and 2 usb ports.
They removed $60 worth of hardware whilst increasing the EU price by $60, so we ended up paying $120 more for an inferior console!
Like look at the PS Move bundle, in the USA you got the full Sports Champions game, in the EU you got a demo disc!
I have always hated $ony for this, we're used to being ripped off in the EU, but this was just taking it too far. So when the PS3 was hacked I was overjoyed that karma finally got back to $ony!
