Sounds really weird. If I were you I would differentiate whether it is a system update or a game update. Does it mention any firmware versions 3.6x-3.7x? What exactly is the update saying?

Although it is not helping your immediate problem, I would highly advise installing and keeping up to date with the highest rebug firmware version spoofer available so that these accidental updates do not occur.
