It is your choice, Custom Firmware or PSN, you can't have both on the same PS3 in a normal way. Only hardware hacking can give you a CFW/OFW multiboot option. But it is in developer status, isn't cheap and it needs some soldering on the PS3 motherboard...
enjoy your PS3, maybe read the forums first before you update to the latest FW so you know what you will miss with Original Firmware
