My questions are:
What Firmware should i update to that will work best for linux?
What version of linux is the best to install?
And will I need to fix the laser first or can I do that later?(does linux install from disk only or can it be done via usb)

I have a ps3 on 3.55kmeaw and another on 3.73OFW so Im not after best firmware overall, just the best for running linux.

A link to a tutorial on installing linux would be great too. Ive seen a few but as I am not familiar with linux Im not sure what Im looking for.....

Thanks!

ok red ribbon rc5 u can install from usb stick or run live from usb easy and simple to install , its made for the ps3 and also made from debian linux . there is other linux you can install via intenet check out gitbrew
http://wiki.gitbrew.org/wikibrew/PS3:Linux and http://wiki.gitbrew.org/wikibrew/PS3:OtherOS%2B%2B
i peffer red ribbon cos its fast

you should install 3.55 ofw you might need a blu ray by pass so u dont go into a update loop cos of to lazer. then install what ever cfw b u want but also blu ray bypass version , u can make a by pass version with mfw builder .
