what filesystem is you external hard drive formatted to? For you to be able to see your filesystem you need to activate the relevant driver in multiMAN.
If you want to transfer, as i suspect you do, you MUST have your external HD formatted to the FAT32 file system because the PS3 doesn't support NTFS yet.
