In all honesty, if we were more cohesive and worked on a solution for allowing homebrew and backup managers (for those that need it like parents with homicide-inducing offsprings for instance) then the True Blue dongle would not have existed I think, but sadly, for the open-source fanatics that loathe on "pay-for-piracy" solutions, this dongle exists and is the only current forward-moving solution in the scene according to the people who use it and are in this scene for gaming purposes mainly.
Oh well, now that the dongle is here, the only thing the end-users who cannot or do not want to buy the dongle is wait and pray for the next solution.
Oh and to use Mathieu Hervais' trademarked outro adage,
