Just as in stepping on ants, you see an ant has more consciousness than a baby in the whom, except in the later stages.
A baby's brain waves are so low, it is not even concious of it's own environment, or it's physical body, it is alive, ofcourse, but the level of conciousness seems to deem what it appropriate to kill, and what isn't.
Just as some scientists argue plants have a very low level of conciousness, but you don't see many people feeling sad over weeds being ripped out.
nevertheless, it's a life lost, and that is very emotional for some people.
