And the church SHOULD BE only a place where you meet with your "Brothers and Sisters" to share the time you warship your God.
I always imagined the church should be more like a forum: where nobody tells you what you HAVE to do, but where you can conversate with others telling them (and vise verca) how YOU think this and that phrase in the Bible could be interpreted...

If someone wants to start a public forum, they start a public forum. If someone wants to get rich off of sheep, they open a church. If people want to worship together, they don't need a church or a forum; the core concepts of Christianity thrived for centuries in spite of crushing roman rule against them and in spite of a complete lack of churches.
BTW...the bible doesn't really describe a merciful god...it describes Jesus as being merciful and god as being a sadist.
