Back in the '80's and '90's $ony was an A-brand and most of the competition (like Akai and Samsung) were B-brands. There were also a lot of electronics-stores that wanted to sell $ony products. But the world and time has changed, the quality difference between A- and B-brands isn't that big anymore and there are only a few big resellers for electronics. The big resellers don't care for a brand name, they only care for big profits.
