During in a recession. Piracy obviously is going to inflate during a recession. I'm sure most people aren't pirating things because they can afford them. Only a schmuck president would consider entertaining anti-piracy bills in a bad economic climate such as this one.

What Sony and other SOPA supporters are doing is trying to take advantage of a bad situation. They know that music sales increase every year in spite of piracy. They know piracy will go as the economy gets better. They taking advantage of it also by the sales of blank DVD's. Sony loves for you to play burned 360 games on your blank Sony DVD's. If they didn't, they wouldn't sell them. They know what you are doing with them. SOPA supporters have even been caught creating false data reports to gain the support of lobbyists.

Using the oft criticized analogy of car theft; (which I know is inaccurate for a multitude of reasons) why have the motor industry never cried out that all those stolen (and TWOCed) cars are depriving them of income?
Because they would not have realized the full price sale of a vehicle in any of those circumstances, that's why.
