It makes perfect sense. People who buy games will buy games even when the console is 100% open. People who pirate games would probably never buy them either way so now you got a bunch of people (including myself) that won't give up their 3.55 consoles and they DON'T buy any new games because they CAN'T play them. I'd buy a crapload of games tomorrow if tonight somebody figured out a way to play them on 3.55, I don't need to BACKUP them, I just need to buy a game, come home and run it on my 3.55 CFW PS3. Since that's not happening, I haven't bought a single game for PS3 since Portal 2, Sony hasn't seen a single cent from me in a long time and I know I'm not the only one. I'm buying games for the 360 now.
Also, the fact that I'm on 3.55 and have the ability to pirate the $hit out of everything doesn't excite me at all. I didn't even bother to pirate big games that were fixed like Uncharted 3, FIFA 12 or Battlefield 3 even though I'd get them for free because I don't care about
those games, the ones I care about don't work on 3.55 so I never bought them. Only thing I actually pirated on my PS3 is the PSN version of Metal Gear Solid (from PS1) and I don't even feel bad about it since I have the original PS1 version in my collection. If there was an option for me to access PSN with my cracked console, I'd buy it
AGAIN but they never gave me that option.
So yeah, having an open console would increase piracy, that's for sure but there are still some decent people out there, people who like to support the developers that make their favorite games so I know it would also mean selling more consoles and games too, I can bet on it.
