i got this problem first time, laser showing red light but not blue, i replaced the laser lens, and everything is fine.
i guess u can check whether ur blueray lens are working or not by disconnecting the data cable and keeping the power cable, then turning the ps3 on (doesnt even matter if u have an HDD installed or not), if the lens moved up and down, and u saw a blue light things are fine with the lens i guess.
make more sure by putting a blueray disc in there (while the ps3 is off) and turn on the ps3 again, if the blueray lens read the disc and it started spinning, i dont think u have a problem with ur blueray lens, it might be the blueray drive or the ps3 software (this is the problem iam having right now).
anyways, make sure if u disassembled ur blueray drive cover (to the point where u can see and two lens and move the whole laser lens assemble), make sure to keep the tall piece of plastic that is located to the right of the blueray driver, make sure it always pushed up (if its down, u have to put the blueray driver in the mode that it have a disc in, then push that piece up) its need to be up cos it pushes the whole laser lens assembly up, so that the laser lens can read, if its not up, nothing will work.
