Math figure out how to exploit the ps3 to be able to get the keys. Most likely not the root key but one above. By getting the keys and to keep his exploit a secret so sony does not fix their mistake or another developer from finding his exploit he does this steps.
He lead other developers away from what he discovered so they focus on finding something different than his exploit.
He gets the needed firmware files from the new firmware and does something similar to devhook for psp. Because math found the key he is able to descrypt the files and than reencrypt it using his own method. This way the trublue does not contain the real keys.
He also gets eboots of new games from paradox member and he gives back decrypted version that is than reencrypted using his own method and key. He also gets to choose what games to release or not. Most likely he enjoys FF and Batman games and want people to pay for those thats why he wont release those eboot files.
So math most likely did successful hack the ps3 using a exploit he found however is now into the business of making a profit for it.
