It seems that TB firmware only corrupts or erases the partition tables of any storage device connected to the PS3 and I think it happens when the system shuts down. This is because everything was fine yesterday after I shut the PS3 down but today I got the "rebuilding database failed, must format hard drive" message. I, being cautious, created a backup of the HDD using the backup utility a few days ago and have been backing up my game saves of Tales of Graces F on to a USB thumb drive connected to the PS3 every time I stop playing. When everything got corrupted, I needed to format the HDD and do a recovery from my backup, but I was able to use a partition recovery program to find my game saves from the thumb drive as that was corrupt as well. Maybe there's a way to just recover the partition off of the PS3 HDD which would be easier but not sure how to do that. All in all, its not a big deal if you're prepared for it but its a big hassle. I hope after JB-King gets more emails, they'll actually look into the problem instead of giving us a TB 2.51 update.

yeah it about my hdd,,, yeah my hdd get formatted after v2.51 the same way exactly as you said ,,, after shut down !!!.. i send a meesage to them but they didnt reply ,,, they just put the upgrade v2.51 and disappeared thinking that the problem is solved ,, we need more users to send them to make them pay attention for that ,,, hope soon get a real fix ,,, good luck bro ..
