I have not yet seen a purely hardware method of dumping memory on the PS3, the XDR bus is simply too fast and complex to dump externally with tools available to the average hacker.
An ideal hybrid method would be to keep PS3 ram alive during a reset, boot into a very skimmed down firmware where we can dump new contents from.
Of course, all we really need is the lv0 key.
