no you don't have to format the drive to wbfs. FAT and NTFS is supported now

but if u use them formate then u cant make the wii game smaller unlike wbfs manager will formate usb hardrive as wbfs but also make the game size smaller which mean more games on the hdd
or does it do that for fat and ntfs too ?
