I chose Red Ribbon because it was recommended to me by OoZic who seems to be the guy who knows about ps3 linux on this forum.
Said it was the most stable for the PS3 post "Install OtherOS" removal option.

Red Ribbon is the most friendly to set up, with other distro's things like mounting the RSX memory to swap have to be made manually. Red Ribbon does things like this in the install process automatically. I know about the Red Ribbon limitations with installing software and changing the desktop environment (XDE).
Things like that can be changed to Red Ribbon, but it makes it unstable so not advised. Remember the PS3 is just a simple computer with only 252 MB real ram (4 MB reserved) when it comes to Linux. Linux isn't optimized to make use of the SPE's and doesn't have the (highly wanted) RSX drivers. That is why Red Ribbon is made as small as possible so it is usable on the limited PS3. Ubuntu for example runs a bit slower on the PS3.
But you can also split the 22 Gb ps3dd partition to 2X 11Gb partitions (or use a CFW with bigger OOS partition) and install another Linux distro to the other partition with boorstrap etc. I have had 3 different distro's at once on the PS3 once on 3 different partitions

Btw, Aros runs ok on Red Ribbon
