Well... we tolk about different methods to achieve different things here
I have no idea of other people... but personally i opened this thread initially to complete the "2G" column of this table http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/PARAM...rameters_Table
Later i realized this "virtual PS2 HDD's" structure is the same one used in PS2 and began to take a look at it (mostly trying to find some signature or something PS3 specific... but i found none)
At this point, and in few words... i saw an "executable .elf" in the fisrt partition, that is a good target candidate to place an exploit, or other app... I did a first try with "ulaunchELF" but failed because a couple of problems explained before
In the road to understand the structure i had to make lot of notes of areas, sectors, offsets, etc...
I was planning to create a table in ps3devwiki with the structure of this "virtual PS2 HDD's" in the "emulation" page when the wiki went down and some info from the "emulation" page was lost
I would like to recover all this later, by now im busy/lazy, this will need few days of edits, it wil be similar than this table i did of the structure of a "virtual PS2 Memory Card" http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Game_...rd_Formats_PS2
Obviously... the filesystem is not mapped, because the positions are variable, and i dont want to mess with filesystems, there are libraryes from the "old" PS2 unoficial SDK that does it, and some programs that manages this formats
Im more interested in documenting and understanding than developing, mostly because i dont consider myself a developer, but i can point to interesting things for others to look at
Btw... time ago i thought maybe is a good idea to move this thread to other subforum... or somebody open a new thread, something like "mods with PS2 virtual HDD's"... or something more concrete like "trying to place an .elf inside a PS2 virtual HDD"... or "PS2 games inside virtual HDD's"... and copy the related or important info from this thread to the new one
I will join the new thread if somebody needs help with sfo's or xmb functions or something related, but im not the best to open this new thread, i dont even have a retro-compatible PS3
