There is a simplie solution for this: patch isolated module to enable supported filesystems also on external, that are normally only allowed on internal (so more then your average FAT12/16/32 but also UFS/UDF/EXT2). -> then use ufs2 *whatever your fetish* on external and you can store files in the PS3 native supported filestructure.
EXfat is not FatX is not UFS1 is not UFS1.5 is not UFS2 is not EXT2/3/4 etc.
