There is ZIP support - if you press X on a ZIP file in the Filebrowser, it will extract the contents of that ZIP file to the cache partition.
Go back in the Filebrowser to the root, and select hdd1 (the cache partition). The contents of the ZIP file should be there. You can then start your ROM from there.
NOTE:There's currently the issue that if you load zipped ROMs this way, and if you did not set a custom savestate/SRAM path, it will save the SRAM and/or savestates back to the hdd1 partition, which will be 'cleared' when RetroArch is stopped. I will fix that in the next release so that it will never save stuff to the cache partition.
