The kicker is your PSP has to be on 5.50. Mine is on 5.50 GEN D. This is probably why you could not get it to work.
There is other free options, if you have a compatible device. Like a ti calculator, ipod 3g, smartphone, etc....
Look here to find out if you have a device that will work.
If you don't, I would suggest the e3 card reader. I have seen some sites selling them for as low as $9.99.

yep i was on 5.50 and on screen it was always saying what it should (i forget now what it was) but i tested 3 diff psp's with this and never had success (many many hours)
