Could someone please explain me quickly what is DEX/CEX, how do I know which one I have and can this new DEX 4.20 run backups/homebrews or is it just a 3.55 but spoofed as 4.20 DEX version?

From what I understand is that CEX is retail? When DEX enables you to do back and forth from DEBUG to CEX (retail?) any time you wish, without reformatting or losing any files, etc.?
