I have more than 200 and mine work fine. I have mine in separate folders though and it lists all the folders in a couple of seconds, then when I open each folder it takes a few seconds more to display the folders/files in that folder and so on.

So more details. All videos are within directories, almost none are at the root level, i.e. in VIDEO/moviename.mp4 . And so yes, it seems to want to parse the individual directories. My video folders and files are named typically: Year.Movie.Name/movie.name.mp4, e.g. VIDEO/1999.The.Matix/The.Matix.mp4
I am using a Toshiba Canvio 1TB 2.5" USB 3.0 drive. It is partitioned into two NTFS directories of about 25 GB each, and the remaining is in the FAT32 partition in which the VIDEO directory resides.
Showtime 3.6.x has no problem displaying all the directory names at once, and also going within each sub-directory. Also have no issues displaying files on various Windows machines.
It may be a directory and partition related problem because I have the same display speed when I hook up the drive to an OFW PS3 machine. Any leads along this vector of thought?
