it seems that the syscon checks on NANDs are bit harder cause it also checks the backup flash chip.. this is e.g. the reason when you dehash you have to flash twice...

so it is not really 100% confirmed that your way back to CEX will work on fats with NANDs without a brick...

my suggestion after 3 bricks and many hours and nights with testing:

- do not use a FAT PS3 for the conversion, its only safe if you have a progskeet

- use NOR slims for that.. but only if you got a hardware-JIG for eventually fixing the most seen semi-bricks (5 beeps, red blinking).. only with the JIG-Dongle you can enter FSM to unbrick it without the need of a E3

btw.. i have ordered my E3 yesterday.. hope to get a used slim at weekend..
my next project will be dual-boot.. one hdd OFW 4.2 <-> one hdd CFW 3.55
So it seems QA Flagging is the key to prevent you from a brick in NOR PS3. @zaphod Does this mean, if you have a NOR PS3, and you have QA Flagged, it will bypass syscon checks during DEX <-> CEX?
