Even though most PS3 games exceed the capacity of a DVD-R, If I remember correctly you will need the multiMAN disc boot in order for burned ps3 games to work but only for original PS3 games.
Anyway you're better off playing games off the internal/external hdd but probably your reason for asking this you want clear up some space off your hdds by putting them on a disc to conserve space. Kinda cheaper then getting an expensive hdd.
