the loop is usually from the bdvd firmware not installing. does it stop at about 85% ?
boot to cfw and see if the drive is working you may have a loose or unplugged cable.
mind you it may work in the cfw but still not be plugged in correctly so you may still need to open the ps3 & double check the connections to the bdvd
