The files are there if you arent directly linked. If you found a direct link the folder will appear empty (hotlinking protection by euss). go up one directory and go back in and it will be there
Back then it was relevant for use of PSN. Spoofing looks less suspect then having a 3.55 console on PSN, or a 9.99 spoofed console show up on PSN if sony checks
Nowadays its not useful for PSN , but is useful for avoiding accidental updates and param.sfo "you need to update" nag screens.
