I found the problem. I opened it back up and found that after removing the E3 front board a couple of times, I pulled the sata connection from the motherboard. It is working now! Thanks for the help

??? the sata connector has no function on the E3 Flasher.
it just runs through it to the esata plug for the external hdd
if it isnt connected then the ps3 still boots but gives "no hdd found" type of message NOT a black screen as you are reporting!
the E3 gets its power directly from the NOR power track (a bit dodgy if you ask me with all the led's being powered via one tiny track) it uses nothing from the sata plug.
take a close look all the pins on the power side of the sata on the E3 board are not even soldered down. you can lift them all lol.
