I fix an average of 2-3 infected computers a week with Malwarebytes for about the last 4 years. Never had a problem with it. Just boot into safe mode, install, scan, and remove. Most antivirus programs are useless against malware. I use a dual protection system of Microsoft security essentials and Malwarebytes. I haven't been infected for the last 5 years using that combo. Wiping your drive is a little drastic. If anything just reinstall Windows 7. If you do an upgrade install then you won't lose any files. If you do a custom install then all your old files will be on your C drive in folder named Windows.old. But you will have to reinstall your programs/apps. If you do a reinstall the malware will still be there until it becomes active so you will still have to do a malware scan before it becomes active again.
