some really funny posts here well Jennys you sound intelligent and all but really i mean i wish you could see the light here...i think if you asked everyone hey man how do you feel about paying 20 bucks for a usb stick that gets updated whenever new security is released and allows you to backup/pirate the latest games people would be all over it...whether it was drm or not...as you rightfully point out it takes effort and those who have come up with a way deserve to be compensated if that is the case...
problem is this is a short term cash in...for many valid reasons...sony adjusting and the complexity of the security...efforts to literally incarcerate people involved closing of websites raiding of shops etc...so the device will not be supported long term...
Since this is the case we as a scene should not i repeat should not support in anyway especially if in actuality technically a dongle is not even necessary for the exploit or hack...especially in such cases...
here is what i think some are missing...sure i pirate...why am i here...but when a dev or site makes a worthwhile contribution i donate...it's a pretty simple system and if more people stuck to it everyone would be happy...
if you really think an effort that comes from you bypassing security will be safe from others who spend time bypassing your own security you are fooling yourself...this is the nature of the situation...some people like breaking the security just for fun so trying to profit from a security break just needs to be discouraged...
all in all i view any efforts whether they are charged for or given freely as positive compared to the companies trusted computing which limits owner's rights and abilities on a machine which they paid for...remember truthfully none of this happens if linux was not removed...you take away linux installs which was a selling point originally and poof we had hacked ps3 a few months later because some people thankfully realize the rights to a machine belong to the owner not the company who designed manufactured and shipped it to the user since we are humans we should always be allowed to come up with ways to insert our own coding and come up with our own features and apps...
showtime is a great example
the piracy part of it sadly being a negative repercussion but i would argue those who pirate would never have purchased the game originally so no true revenue is lost...
