Nope its a hardware USB dongle that you'll need in addition to the E3 flasher kit. Also about PSN, you're bringing bad news. When I heard about this, I quickly googled for solutions (although I haven't looked into it much), and it seems that there were some programms and stuff you could install after the Jailbreak to get PSN back, is that false ? Having PSN relies on workarounds or leaked passphrases which allow us to connect to PSN/SEN. At the moment I believe PSN IS available, but it wont last long imho. Basically for jailbreaking, if I understood correctly : - I need to open the PS3, messing with the hardware YES - Get a 60€+ flasher (E3, since I'm in NOR) YES - Give up PSN and online multiplayer even with originals YEP So it's choosing between 60€ starter fee, unlimited solo games and risk of breaking PS3... or paying 40+ per game. Tough choice ! Thought it'd be as easy as jailbreaking an iPhone. For me it was , but that was over a year ago when 3.55 was the dominant FW, nowadays sony has attempted to block this so many times, its virtually impossible to buy a PS3 that you can jailbreak without hardware!
