As far as I understand it, yes.

It seems to be FW dependent rather than drive dependent. I suppose the best people to ask would be glevland or euss as they would know a lot more on exactly how it works.

I could be totally wrong

An ideal test would be someone who has a flasher to test a new movie on 3.55, update to 4.25, play it (it will update the HRL/DRL on the BD drive etc), then downgrade to 3.55 and see if it plays again (as you previously stated).

You will probably get the prohibited playback message first, so that would need to be fixed.

As you can't access the filesystem on 4.25, you would have use a BR drive in a PC to look at the MKB_RO.inf file to get the DRL

The DRL in the Data Revoke folder HAS to match the DRL on the drive to stop the prohibited playback message. Once that has been sorted, if the AACS keys are stored on the drive, the film should play.

If not, it means they are stored in the PS3 FW.
