I've tried cloning a drive off a working PS3 and its failing. I am thinking that the only real option is to do a downgrade of the firmware to any build and then to install the OS past that point.
My soldering skills are really poor and I was hoping to be able to do this type of downgrade off a USB dongle or a solder-less connector if at all possible.
I don't care if the end result gets me to a OFW or a CFW, I just need to get this unit to boot at this point. The PS3 is going to be given to a child if I can get it to work so most the CFW options will never be used so if getting to an OFW would make him happy.
Any ideas?

I have never heard of someone fixing the problem you have. I would suggest you do nothing at all until some one who knows more that I do can help you.
Edit: If you use a teensy or progskeet to downgrade it then you should be okay. I do not know if a software downgrade method exists for 3.56. If I was you I would wait for more info.
