My only guess is that even though I setup PS3 media server in some cases to not transcode MKV files PS3 media server was still doing some sort of transcode so that I was still able to see and play MKV files on my PS3 with 3.55 and 4.21. But whatever that was definitely isn't working on 4.30. After my upgrade to 4.30 it is the first time I've ever seen "Unsupported Format" for MKV files on my PS3 via the PS3 media server icon under video in the XMB.
