You said you played around with the file structure, make sure you didnt delete anything or made an additional folder. Correct file structure:
USB drive:/GAMES/GAME_NAME_OR_ID/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/EBOOT.BIN
Example of incorrect file structure:
USB drive:/GAMES/GAME_NAME_OR_ID/ANOTHER_FOLDER/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/EBOOT.BIN
