Well after hours more reading and experimenting I seemed to have made some progress.

My main issue was getting the PS3 into FSM, I had one partial success using PS3JIG but ended up getting the RLOD after the De-hash stage. Given that I have made 30 plus attempts with the PS3JIG I would have to say that at best that method is unreliable.

I then went back to my home made PIC 18F2550 board and eventually discovered that most of the software for the PIC chips seems to be for some function other than getting into FSM (not something that is explained).

Finally I came across itsakamel's guide which is the only place I have seen FSM files for PIC chips and that got me into FSM straight away. I was then able to follow Baileys guide up to and including de-hashing and ended up with 3.55 ofw on my PS3.

The problem I have now is that Baileys guide (and others) say that I can now install a cfw of my choice yet when, for example, I tried to install the 3.55 kmeafw it bombs out stating that I already have it installed.

Any suggestions please?
