I can't believe how angry some users are. If anything, they should have seen it coming from miles away. PSN is a SERVICE, and you agreed to its ToS when you made an account, if you then violate the ToS then they have full rights to deny you access to PSN. You shouldn't expect to have PSN working at all if you have a modded system. Guess 360 drive modding spoiled some pirates here.
Also, CFW on PSN is not alright. No matter what you do, if you allow this, people will cheat online. There's nothing wrong with single player cheating but multiplayer cheating ruins the fun for other users. That is good enough reason for PSN to ban everyone using CFW online.
Customers who abide to the ToS are more important than those who don't.
Also, it's obvious that they use piracy as a mere excuse and what they want is to control their users. However, if you think pirates aren't the vast majority of modders, you're fooling yourself. Sure, there are CFW users who don't pirate. However they obviously can't let that minority go on PSN along with all the pirates AND the cheaters. I'm definitely not pro-Sony, but I'm not delusional either.
That said, this part bothers me :
"Violation of the System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation®3 system invalidates the consumer's right to access that system."
Is such a ToS even legal? Or just fear mongering?
Well, I wouldn't be surprised if this was legal in the US, but I sure hope it's not the case in europe. Voiding the warranty? Obviously fine. Having the right to get the police to raid your house and take your PS3 because you modded your system? Don't make me laugh!

Except unlike the 360, you can modify the firmware. You can patch the system so it doesn't flag your console, or send the flags to Sony. Obviously this means Sony will not rely on such a system to find and ban CFW users.

If you have bought any game/dlc remember to backup your activation in case the worst happens.
My personal opinion on this: cfw on psn is alright, buying games/dlcs and playing online with the backups of games i bought should be allowed and are not a valid reason to get banned, cheaters however can get their ps3 explode in their faces for all i care.

They can't differenciate people who make legitimate backups and people who pirate. So obviously when it comes to PSN they'll just assume everyone pirates since like 95% of console modders do anyway.
And as you said, there are also cheaters. I'm sorry but it's perfectly normal that they don't let modders ruin the online fun of their legitimate users, as I said above.
